Year 7 to 9 student from around the region participated in last weeks Manufacturing and Technology Showcase. The idea was to show kids in early high school what some of the employment opportunities where out there. Student visited stalls set up at Gordon TAFE, Deakin Uni and the Ford Discovery Centre. We set up a badge making machine to simulate a stamping press and for some hands-on interaction while discussing jobs and the role of the unions.
Geelong Trades Hall discussed manufacturing jobs with the students and answered any questions about the rights at work and their expectations. In all between 400 and 500 local students went the the Showcase and made nearly 600 badges in over the three days.
