The NUW (National Union of Workers) was making sure that the union message got heard loud and clear last Saturday in Brunswick. Geelong Trades Hall Secretary, Tim Gooden, was on the way home from the John Cummins Foundation Dinner when he heard the distinct sound of a union chant defending workers rights.
The campaign is about stopping Mitre 10 warehouse using the current IR laws to set up a sub standard non-union agreement before recruiting new workers. Word has it that new recruits are asked what they think about unions in the job interviews - wonder if they get hired when they say they love em?!?!?
PS no one was seen shopping at Mitre 10. Nice BBQ. Go to http://www.nuw.org.au/ for more info.
