Victorian unions campaign to protect injured workers’ rights

THE Victorian union movement faces a massive challenge from a report that threatens to trash the rights of workers who are injured in the workplace.

THE state government is considering the recommendations of the Hanks Review of the Accident Compensation Act. The Hanks recommendations, if adopted by the government, will make the WorkCover system for injured workers much worse.

FOR years the Labor government has been promising unions that it would make big improvements to the system. It hasn’t.

NOW injured workers face the prospect of losing more rights, more benefits and fundamental rights to allow them to get back to work when they recover from injury.

THE Victorian Trades Hall Council is alerting the Victorian public of the Hanks attack on the rights of injured workers. Public meetings are being called in regional centres to inform Victorians of the threat to the rights of employees who are injured in the workplace.
