Women Unionists Network Meeting
At our Network meeting in May the Geelong Trades Hall Centenary celebrations for 2009 were discussed. Some great ideas were suggested for the women unionists of Geelong to commemorate this significant event.
These were:
A Banner
Some sort of Quilt
Plaque
If you have any other ideas to contribute come along to the next meeting or give Chris or Anne a call at Trades Hall on 52211712.
The next meeting of the Women Unionists Network will be on Wednesday 16th July 5.30pm at Geelong Trades Hall – Executive Room. Refreshments provided.
ALL WELCOME
This is a great opportunity to network, have input into events and activities and generally have a good time with a few drinks and eats.
Annual Dinner
The dinner has now been organised for 24th July 2008. We are pleased to have Michele O’Neil Secretary of the Textile Clothing and Footwear Union as our guest speaker for the dinner.
For more information or to book contact Anne on 52211712.
Update on local Union Action
HACSU (Union for disability service workers) and the Department of Human Services have finally come to an agreement on our recent EBA.
The outcome is a good one for our members with a 7% to 10% pay rise in the first year and no loss of existing conditions.
There is also to be a long awaited recognition of qualifications /classification of workers who have done advanced studies and a financial remuneration for this.
This agreement came about quicker than our members thought; it could possibly be that the DHS could not stand to hear Valmai and Priscilla on Union Air one more time.

Newsletter
The Women Unionists Network produces a newsletter every 2 months with updates on events, what’s happening, opportunity for feedback and other matters of interest.
We welcome contributions to this newsletter so don’t hesitate to contact Chris with info or specific articles.
Union Air 94.7
The union movement has its own local radio program, Union Air, every Saturday at 12 noon on 94.7 The Pulse.
A number of women unionists are involved in the production of the show and do a fantastic job every week.
The show provides up to date information on what is happening industrially around Geelong and the country generally. It’s certainly worth listening to and is a great opportunity to keep issues affecting women workers on the agenda.
Women Unionists Network Training Weekend
Planning has begun for this years training weekend. The venue has been booked for the 14th to 16th of November. We are now in the process of seeking sponsorship and letters have gone out to unions and other sponsors.
A number of sessions and topics have been proposed and further work will be done over the next few weeks to pull together the program and identify relevant speakers for the sessions.
It has been agreed that the Friday night session and the Saturday night dinner should remain as they are. An expression of interest form is now circulating. If you would like more forms or information contact Chris or Anne 52211217
