About fifty Geelong Amublance officers and paramedics campaigning for more staff and better work conditions bailed up the Victorian Health Minister, Daniel Andrews, while he visited Geelong on Friday 19 September.
Victoria’s Ambulance Employees Union has begun a Campaign to win an Enterprise Bargaining Agreement with 4 essential demands;
· Better rosters and 10 hour rest breaks between shifts to relieve paramedic fatigue.
· Restoring a full MICA service to all Melbournians.
· Upgraded ambulance services for understaffed regional towns and cities.
· A fair wage outcome to help us recruit and retain our highly-skilled paramedics.
Carrying placards with the slogan, “Response Time! Our Ambos Our Lives”, members chanted outside the Geelong Central Ambulance Station where the Minister was visiting on other business until he agreed to meet a delegation to hear their concerns. The Victorian government has refused until now to meet with the union.
